Job Description

Objective 

This position is under the direct supervision of the security sergeant for assigned shift of the security department and is responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of assets, personnel, customers and all visitors.

Essential functions

  1. Performs security patrols.

  2. Enforces access control procedures.

  3. Protects property from theft, embezzlement, sabotage, fire and accidents.

  4. Investigates and writes reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards and other security related situations.

  5. Provides any needed assistance to customers, employees and visitors following the department's procedures.

  6. May perform other related duties as assigned by a security sergeant and/or security program manager.

Supervisory responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a University oriented environment. The environment is such where customer service skills and professionalism are of the utmost importance. Environment and duty related policies and procedures are subject to change based upon company and client requirements.  

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

  2. The employee frequently is required to: stand and sit for extended durations of time without reasonable assistance or accommodation (not to exceed 16 hours).

  3. Perform patrols as directed in conditions that may be considered hazardous, austere or in extreme weather and climate conditions.

  4. Must be able to operate a motorized vehicle and be in possession of a Valid State issued Driver’s License upon hiring.

  5. Must be able to complete multiple logs during a duty assignment and or shift.

  6. Must be able to articulate events, clearly and concisely in written form.

  7. Must have no less than 20/20 vision when corrected.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  1. This is a FULL TIME position with variable and rotating or fixed shifts of anywhere between 8 and 12 hours.

  2. The position will require availability on nights, weekends and holidays.

  3. Applicant must be aware and understand that they may be subject to alternative scheduling as applicable as job duties demand.

 

Job Requirements

Required Education And Experience

 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent

  2. At least 21 years of age

  3. Valid State Issued Driver’s License

  4. Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak the English language in a professional clear and concise manner.

  5. A minimum of two (2) years of Security related experience.  Applicant may have a combination of qualifying experience related to the following to qualify:

  1. Military Experience (National Guard, Reserve or Active Duty - all branches acceptable)

  2. A minimum of 24 credits towards the completion of an Undergraduate or Associate degree or discipline in the following areas:  Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, or Physical Security

  3. Federal, State or Local Law Enforcement Experience

  1. Must have at least one (1) year of experience related to Customer Service.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Valid State Issued Driver’s license

  2. Security and/or law enforcement experience

  3. Current First Aid/CPR/ AED Certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association

  4. Current Monadnock Baton Certification

  5. Current Use of Aerosol Deterrent or Oleoresin Capsicum (OC Spray) Certification

  6. Current Arrest Authority or Handcuffing Certification

  7. Valid Maryland Security Guard Certification

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. The applicant must be able to successfully complete a Physical Assessment Test (PAT), which includes 19 Military Standard Push-Ups in 2 minutes, a 40-yard Dash from Prone Position in 8.56 seconds, a 25m - 150lb Dummy Drag in 15 secs, and a 1.5 mile Run in 20 minutes.
  2. The applicant is required to submit to pre-employment medical exam and drug screening.
  3. The applicant must be able to pass an NLIC / State / Local Background check and Credit check (as applicable).

Work Authorization/Security Clearance 
Possess a clearance level of Secret or higher issued by the United States Department of Defense.
